The Department of Economy, Labor, and Employment of the Basque Government has announced the creation of the Basque Employment Forum, an initiative aimed at reinforcing the design, monitoring, and evaluation of public employment policies in the region. This forum is established against the backdrop of a labor market facing significant challenges, including high youth unemployment rates and the need to promote labor inclusion for vulnerable groups.

With the establishment of this forum, the Basque Government seeks to bring together various stakeholders, including businesses, labor unions, and non-governmental organizations, to collaborate on formulating effective strategies that respond to the current needs of the labor market. The integration of different perspectives is crucial for addressing the complex issues facing the economy of Euskadi and, by extension, all of Spain.

The labor market in Latin America has been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, and although signs of recovery have emerged, challenges such as informality and lack of opportunities for youth persist. The creation of spaces like the Basque Employment Forum can serve as a model for other regions in Latin America looking to improve their employment policies and foster a more inclusive and sustainable labor environment.

The forum will meet periodically to assess the progress of implemented policies and adjust strategies according to emerging market needs. This action reflects a commitment from the Basque Government to ensure that employment is not only a goal but an achievable reality for all citizens.

As the forum begins its work, it is expected that clear success indicators will be established and best practices will be shared that can be replicated in other regions, thereby contributing to the development of a more robust and equitable labor market.
