In Peru, less than 30% of people with disabilities manage to secure formal employment, according to a recent report by Business Empresarial. This figure highlights the profound inequality faced by this population in the Peruvian labor market, where over three million people are estimated to live with some form of disability.

The limited access to job opportunities not only affects individuals with disabilities but also negatively impacts the country's economy. The lack of labor inclusion results in lower productivity and an increased economic dependency for these individuals, perpetuating cycles of poverty and social exclusion.

Regionally, this situation is not unique to Peru. In several Latin American countries, people with disabilities face similar barriers, such as the lack of reasonable accommodations in the workplace, discrimination, and the scarcity of job training programs. However, some countries have begun to implement more inclusive policies that promote the integration of people with disabilities into the labor market.

Organizations and activists in Peru are calling on the government to take effective measures to foster inclusion. This includes promoting incentives for companies that hire people with disabilities and creating awareness programs that educate society on the importance of workplace diversity.

The inclusion of people with disabilities in formal employment not only benefits individuals but also enriches companies by bringing a variety of perspectives and skills. Meanwhile, the fight for equity in access to work continues, requiring a collective effort from all sectors to achieve meaningful change in the Peruvian labor landscape.
