OAS and Ayuda en Acción join forces to boost youth employment
The Organization of American States (OAS) and the NGO Ayuda en Acción have formalized a strategic alliance aimed at boosting youth employment in Latin America. This agreement, signed on April 1, 2026, seeks to address the high youth unemployment rates in the region, which currently exceed 20% in several countries, posing a significant challenge to economic and social development.
OAS Secretary General Luis Almagro emphasized the importance of this collaboration in a context where the COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated economic difficulties, leaving many young people without job opportunities. "Investing in youth is investing in the future of our nations. Through this alliance, we aim to provide tools, training, and resources so that young people can access decent and sustainable jobs," Almagro stated during the signing ceremony.
On the other hand, Ayuda en Acción's director, Javier Ruiz, mentioned that the alliance will implement training and job counseling programs. "Our approach will focus on empowering young people by providing them with the necessary skills to adapt to an ever-changing job market," Ruiz noted.
The initiative also includes collaboration with local businesses to facilitate internships and job placements. In this regard, labor market analysis in Latin America reveals that despite the growing digitalization and demand for technical skills, many young people lack access to education and training that would enable them to compete in the current labor environment.
This collaboration between the OAS and Ayuda en Acción is a hopeful step in the fight against youth unemployment in the region and a model that could be replicated in other contexts. The implementation of effective policies and training programs will be key to ensuring that young people in Latin America not only find employment but also contribute to the sustainable development of their communities.
