Youth Stagnation Without Work or Education in Latin America

In Latin America, the situation of youth who are neither studying nor working has reached alarming levels, raising concerns among governments and social organizations. A recent report estimates that over 20 million young people in the region find themselves in this predicament, posing a serious threat to the economic and social future of Latin American countries.

This phenomenon, known as the NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or Training) rate, reflects not only a lack of job opportunities but also limited access to education. The COVID-19 pandemic exacerbated this issue, with many educational institutions closing and the labor market suffering a severe contraction. As young people face an increasingly competitive environment, the lack of skills and professional experience leaves them in a vulnerable position.

Moreover, frustration and disillusionment among young people may result in increased migration to other countries in search of better opportunities.
