Employment in Peru grew by 1.5% in 2025: key sectors
In 2025, employment in Peru saw a growth of 1.5%, according to a recent report from the Ministry of Labor and Employment Promotion. This increase reflects a gradual recovery in the Peruvian labor market, which had been impacted in previous years by the pandemic and other economic challenges.
Among the sectors that experienced the most growth are information and communication technology (ICT), commerce, and agriculture. Digitalization and rising demand for technological services have driven the creation of new jobs in the ICT sector, which now represents a significant portion of total employment in the country. Commerce, on the other hand, has seen a resurgence due to improved consumer confidence and an increase in e-commerce.
Agriculture, a fundamental pillar of the Peruvian economy, also showed notable growth, driven by domestic demand and the export of agricultural products. This sector has been key in generating employment in rural areas, where job creation is essential for local economic development.
However, despite these advances, the labor market in Peru still faces challenges such as informality and the need for training in digital skills. It is estimated that over 70% of workers in the country are in the informal economy, which limits their access to social benefits and job stability.
Projections for 2026 are optimistic, but they will largely depend on the government's and private sector's ability to promote policies that encourage job formalization and workforce training. Collaboration between government entities, businesses, and civil society organizations will be crucial in consolidating job growth and ensuring that all Peruvians can benefit from future employment opportunities.
